Who knew? Apparently RIFT has been pulling away denizens of Azeroth to such an extent that WoW bloggers are now certifying themselves as “RIFT-Free” zones. Guys, I hate to be the ones to tell you this, but no game stays on top forever. And RIFT players, I hate to tell YOU this, but just because you’re hot right out of the gate… doesn’t mean you’re going to stay on top. Plenty of people try a new game when it’s the latest hotness, only to go back “home” when they get bored or frustrated.

There’s room for both on the market, My guess is that the whole population will stabilize in the next month or so – with a few less WoW gamers, a few more RIFT gamers, but no real change in the status of who’s top dog.
And yes I TOTALLY get the irony of the title of this post. It was kind of the point.

Just this weekend, I was whining and complaining “When are the good sci fi shows coming back on the air?” Well apparently some people heard me, because SyFy has announced premiere dates for some of their hottest shows.

STARGATE UNIVERSE – Returns Monday March 7, at 10PM

SANCTUARY – Returns Friday April 15, at 10PM

Of course, although we know that Dr Who will be returning in spring, I still don’t know exactly WHEN. And I’m also anxiously awaiting Eureka and Warehouse 13. And being a cooking show fanatic, I’m intrigued by the launch of Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen. Starting Tuesday, March 22 at 10pm, this interesting concept blends sci fi and molecular gastronomy – teaching science while making unique, one of a kind kitchen creations.

Wow, I just somehow lapsed into Iron Chef speak. Anyway, if memory serves me, the young man in question looks a lot like Topher Grace but has cooked with such greats as Joel Robuchon (again, insert your Iron Chef reference here.) Will the show work out? Whose cuisine will reign supreme?

I have to be honest, Warehouse 13 is one of my guilty pleasures. That and Eureka are my one-two punch of light sci fi. And waiting until this summer just got a bit harder today when SyFy announced a great addition to the Warehouse 13 cast.

“NEW YORK – February 17, 2011 – Aaron Ashmore, who portrayed the iconic character Jimmy Olsen in Smallville, will join the cast of Syfy’s hit series Warehouse 13 as “Steve Jinks,” a young ATF agent with an innate ability to detect when someone’s lying. Jinks is recruited by the all-powerful Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) to be Pete Lattimer’s (Eddie McClintock) new Warehouse 13 partner. In last year’s gripping season two finale, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) abruptly quit her job at the Warehouse after being betrayed by the duplicitous HG Wells (Jaime Murray).”

Will Myka return? What will happen to Steve when she does? Come on summer!

I don’t know about you, but I wish I could spend just one day at Toy Fair. Every year it seems like they find something that just makes me grab involuntarily for my purse. Take my money, Funko, take it and just let me have one or two of these adorable Star Wars action figures!

There’s plenty more where that came from, but rather than spend a lot of time rehashing it, just check out this nifty article about Star Wars toys at this year’s Toy Fair on Blastr.

Look, I’m just going to say it. The biggest thing that was stopping me from getting into DCUO was the armor. Or more specifically, having to wear power armor. Nothing in the screenshots or TV ads appealed to me, and after all I have been playing City of Heroes for YEARS. Until I got a load of the House of El battle suit below…

OK, maybe this doesn’t look THAT bad! Honestly, I’ve been thinking about picking up a copy for the PC and giving it a shot. I know that the console version is supposed to be more stable and playable, but I just am not prepared to shell out $300 bucks for a console to play the game.

Joystiq has more info including an interview with Chris Cao, drop by and see what you think. Maybe I’ll see you in Metropolis!

Yup, I open this blog back up with one of the crustiest old memes I know. But really, it’s pretty impressive that a supercomputer can actually beat some of the smartest former contestants at Jeopardy. I mean beating ME would be no big trick, but Ken Jennings is one smart cookie.

Don’t get too excited though – it’s going to be a while before you have a personal assistant like Watson in your pocket. It takes 90 32-core IBM Power 750 Express servers with a total of 16 terabytes of memory to get Watson to come up with Jeopardy questions for all those answers.

Read more about Watson on the IBM Web Site.
